For 12 years my client and friend has run a successful and growing recruitment business as a sole proprietor. In the 11th year there was the GFC and the business was very tough, especially after a senior staff member left and endeavored to take the clients she had been given to work on with her. It took great effort to retain all but one client. Finally came a significant bad debt. It was all very draining for a sole proprietor.

Unexpectedly an alternative arose that meant a regular income at the level of the previous good years, so the decision was made to close the business and pursue the other alternative as an employee.

However because all the necessary systems, forms and procedures had been developed to the high standard required to gain Quality Accreditation we thought these could be of enormous use to someone seeking to set up their own recruitment business. They are completely current as the business traded until early this year.

Opportunity

Now that the GFC is becoming a distant memory, the economy is turning around and employers have increasing confidence in the market to shore up any concerns about new hires.  Temp recruitment is continuing to be somewhat flat however, activity in this area should increase after the end of the financial year when new budgets may allow for casual recruitment.  In addition, the Hudson Report : Employer Expectations indicates that overall there is an increase in hiring intentions across all employment sectors
